Hampton Beach Fire. July 14, 1950

Camera: unknown

Looks like a nice, sunny summer day when the fire struck. Branniff must have scurried around a lot to gather so many good shots.

There is a consistent streak in about five of the pictures. It looks like a glare, perhaps from the fire, but most likely it comes from the sunlight. I had a similar problem with my old Holga when I dropped and chipped the UV filter lens.

These images are preserved by the Lane Memorial Library. I wonder what other archaeographical finds lay hidden in the archives of other local city historical societies.

Hampton Beach is a small resort community on the Atlantic Ocean coast of New Hampshire, one of the most northeastern states of the US (wikipedia).

(Thanks to Peter Herz for finding these--We were Googling for the band "The Arcade Fire")
