B-Auger-5 gob.jpg

A bucket auger drilling with the Garbage Project's dig team at Sunnyvale (CA) Landfill in 1988. A pole is hung from the derek mounted on the truck. The pole, which is 31 feet long, is actually three poles extended one inside the other so that it can be extended out like a telescope. A few feet at a time, a bucket auger can drill to a depth of 97 feet. photo credit: Jim Sugar
