tableau vivant

WWII.jpg

Posted on eBay.

The seller advertised it as a WWII photograph featuring German "boys".
I believe it is actually a postcard.

I think the choice of activities and/or roles depicted is fascinating --

plowing
chopping
smithing
reading (2) -- any ideas on what the guy with the scroll is doing?
delivering mail? messenger?

And then, of course, there's the helmet head in the middle with the absolutely enormous sword.

Some sort of tableau of good Teutonic activities? A visual list of "what men do"? Or simply boys having their fun?
