House of Boulders. Jebel Moya (central Sudan). February 2000.
Sir Henry Wellcome, an American millionaire, sponsored archaeological excavations at the Neolithic site of Jebel Moya between 1910 and 1938. He mobilized 1,100 local laborers, dozens of scientists and the latest technology - including aerial photography. The excavation was organized on military lines by Major J.S. Uribe, an Ecuadorian refugee.
In 1911 he had a colossal house built with large granite boulders. This empty structure and vague memories of Al-Pasha are all that is left today.
