This is an entrenched Soviet T-55 tank. Its mission was to defend Asosa, in western Ethiopia, against rebel troops. But it could not prevent the town from being taken by the Oromo Liberation Front in 1988. A new hospital was razed to the ground and 300 people, belonging to the Amhara community - like the boys and girls in the photograph - were killed: men, women and children.
