Daguerrotype c 1850.
It looks as if the photographer pointed his camera out of the window across the street to take this photo - most daguerrotypes from this period are studio portraits.
The plate is in poor condition, but scanning brings out immense detail - look to the corner of the building on the right - a small boy, invisible when just looking at the polished plate, is watching.
