My father and I made a long-awaited pilgrimage last weekend, to see Bodega Bay and the town of Bodega, the setting for Hitchcock's The Birds. Hitchcock picked the location for its gloominess and mystery and was terribly disappointed when the sun shone brightly during filming; he had to tone down the colors during the editing process. He would have loved last Sunday -- thick mist, wild coastline, and lots of birds. I took these pictures with my phone camera, and I'm really pleased with them. Rewatch The Birds, look at these pictures, and think about the aura of place. I don't really want to comment any more than that, because I think the pictures (particularly if you are a Hitchcock fan) speak for themselves.
