Through the process of decay, things change their shape, taking on new forms, becoming twisted, dissembled, bent out of shape and somehow become relocated so that they stand in situations for which they were unprepared. Because many ruins become cleared out, often these fragments – particularly heavy pieces of machinery and kinds of apparatus which seem unsuited for recycling – stand in relief against a spacious background, which serves as an impromptu gallery.
These unpredictable and tactile forms have often been worked upon by intruders, bashed around and dented, but this adds allure to their form. It is a matter of conjuncture as to whether any of the sculptures presented here have been deliberately assembled and sited by artists on the move.
